Spider Vein Immediate Removal Treatment

Spider Vein Immediate Removal Treatment

Spider veins and varicose veins are incredibly common. They are an unfortunate side effect of the natural aging process and are also a highly hereditary trait.

Spider veins appear as thin red lines in the skin and are caused by the widening of small blood vessels. They often appear as a network of lines resembling a spider web, hence the name. These spider veins can appear anywhere on the skin but are most common in the legs.

Varicose veins are similar, but they are generally larger, bluish-purple in color, and appear exclusively on the legs.

Whether you have varicose veins or spider veins, you may be interested in treatment to remove them. While they can sometimes cause discomfort, for most the desire to remove them is primarily motivated by aesthetics. You shouldn’t feel comfortable wearing shorts during the hot summer months due to troublesome spider veins or varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally-invasive treatment. It works by injecting Asclera, a chemical solution, into the bloodstream. This chemical causes a small clot, which then collapses the blood vessels that are causing spider or varicose veins. The Asclera does this by damaging the cells lining the walls of the blood vessels, called endothelium. As a result, your spider veins and varicose veins quickly fade away.

A sclerotherapy treatment session typically lasts 14-45 minutes, depending on the amount of varicose or spider veins being treated. Several injections of the Asclera are given during the session, one for every inch of the targeted veins. After treatment, it’s critical for patients to wear compression stockings at all times for two to three days after treatment for spider veins. For varicose vein treatment, compression stockings should be worn at all times for five to seven days. During the ensuing two to three weeks the compression stockings should be worn only during the day.

Depending on the severity of the veins being treated, follow-up treatments may be necessary. These treatments will be spaced apart by one to two weeks.

Who is a candidate for sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy varicose and spider vein removal is effective on what are known as uncomplicated veins. For varicose veins, this includes those that are less than 3mm in diameter. Uncomplicated spider veins are classified as those that are a maximum of 1mm in diameter.  If your veins meet this criterion, you may be a good candidate for sclerotherapy for spider vein and varicose vein removal.

Regardless of vein size, you should avoid sclerotherapy under a few circumstances, though. If you are allergic to polidocanol, a chemical in the Asclera, then you should not receive sclerotherapy. If you are pregnant, nursing, or have a blood clotting condition then sclerotherapy should be avoided.

What are the results?

You should see positive results in three to six weeks after treatment on small varicose veins or spider veins. For larger veins, it may take several treatments and up to three or four months to see the results.

Fortunately, once the veins have responded to the treatment they do not come back. There is always the possibility of new veins appearing, as sclerotherapy targets and eliminates existing spider and varicose veins, but it cannot prevent future veins from appearing. You can rest assured, though, that the same veins that have been removed will not re-appear.

If you were experiencing pain or discomfort due to your spider veins or varicose veins, this too should be reduced or completely eliminated after treatment. As the problem veins are effectively removed, the pain and discomfort fade away.

Many studies have been done on the effectiveness of sclerotherapy. According to a clinical investigation on sclerotherapy results, 74% of patients responded that they were either very satisfied or satisfied with the results of their treatment.
