Laser Hair Removal Treatment
in Marina Del Rey, CA

Would you like smooth skin without worrying about shaving every morning? Do you want to look more attractive and active but need help figuring out how to go about it? Laser hair removal is an easy process and helps you eliminate unwanted body and facial hairs that can be overly irritating. In this article, we’ll look at what to expect from laser hair removal treatments, their benefits, and their effectiveness.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work

Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses high-intensity light to remove unwanted hair. The process is performed by a laser technician and is considered permanent.

The first step involves applying an anesthetic cream to the area of the skin where hair removal will occur. This may be an area of the face or body where you want to remove hair permanently. The cream numbs the skin and makes it more comfortable during the procedure.

The next step involves applying a cooling gel to protect your skin from any heat generated by the laser device. This prevents damage to your skin as it works to remove unwanted hair from beneath your skin’s surface layer.

After applying these two products, your technician will use a handpiece similar to a wand with a laser diode at its tip. The wand emits focused light pulses onto your skin to create heat and destroy unwanted hairs at their roots.

Who Can Get It?

Laser hair removal can be done on almost all body parts, but some exceptions exist. The most common areas that laser hair removal is used on include the underarms, legs, bikini area, back, mustache, and Brazilian. Men can also treat their chest area if they want to thin it rather than get rid of it completely.

Some areas are more difficult to treat than others. For example, dark skin tones are less effective with laser hair removal because the light absorption by melanin tends to diffuse or scatter the energy beam before it reaches its target. That means less heat being applied locally from within your follicle and less chance of permanent damage.

Laser hair removal works best for people with dark coarse hair and light skin. However, if you have blond or red hair and pale skin, you can still get laser hair removal, but it may take several sessions to remove all the unwanted hair. This is because there is no pigment to target.

People with dark thick, coarse hair will get better results from laser treatment than people with fine light colored hair. If your skin is darker than olive-toned or black or brown curly coarse hair, you are a good candidate for our laser treatments.

Laser hair removal is also an option for people with high hair growth levels caused by PCOS. PCOS is a hormone disorder that results in irregularities in the number of hormones your body makes, which can cause excessive hair growth on your face, chest, and back.

Laser hair removal might not work for you if you have fine or light-colored hair. It may be hard to target those hairs with the laser.

How many treatments are needed?

Laser removal takes eight full treatment sessions, four to six weeks apart, to see the full correction. Unfortunately, the number of treatments for laser hair removal varies from person to person. The size and shape of your area being treated and your hair growth cycle will determine how long it takes to see results.

For example, if you have very thick curly hair growing in its full cycle for about six months, you may need more treatments than someone with fine, straight hair growing only every three months or less. Areas with slow hair growth, like the back, may need treatments mostly 12 weeks apart.

How to prepare for your next laser hair removal treatment

Preparation is key to a great laser hair removal experience. Here are some tips for preparing for your next treatment:

Shave before treatment

Shaving before each session is the first thing you can do to prepare for laser hair removal. This is because shaving instantly softens and opens up your skin, which helps make it easier to see what should be done during the treatment.

You should shave in the direction of hair growth. Shaving should be done 24 hours before treatment time so that any stubble doesn’t interfere with its effectiveness. Don’t apply moisturizing lotion or cream after shaving, or at least not before treatment.

Check for any recent sunburns

Before treatment, check for any recent sunburns. It could affect your results if you’ve had a significant amount of time in the sun and have yet to heal. If you’re concerned about this happening, ask your doctor whether or not laser hair removal is right for you.

If there is no reason why you need to wait before going in for laser hair removal treatments, consider taking care of your skin with moisturizer and sunscreen every day during the recovery period, typically one to two weeks.

Avoid tanning

You should avoid tanning in the weeks before and after treatment. Tanning can cause skin cancer and premature aging of the skin, which will make laser hair removal ineffective.

Avoid waxing and plucking

Waxing and plucking are two methods that can cause skin damage, making laser hair removal less effective. You’re better off removing your unwanted hair with a method that doesn’t hurt your skin – the laser way.

Ensure your skin is clean and dry

Keep your skin clean and dry before treatment. Pat the area with a towel to remove excess moisture. Do not use moisturizers or lotions on the area before treatment, as they may interfere with laser hair removal treatments.

Do not apply makeup to any part of your face unless it is medically necessary, according to an allergist’s recommendation. If you must wear makeup, ensure that it does not contain oils that could clog pores and inhibit healing from previous laser treatments.

Avoid pain relievers or antihistamines

Do not take pain relievers or antihistamines before coming in for your appointment. These medications may prevent the laser from working effectively on your skin.

Get the Treatment a Week before/after Your Periods

Schedule your next appointment a week before or after your period week.

Caffeine is not recommended

Caffeine increases sensitivity, which you wouldn’t want to experience during your treatment.

Be as loose as possible

Wear clothes that are not tight on your skin for treatment. That could be loose underpants and breathable fabrics.

Aftercare instructions after laser hair removal treatment

After the treatment, you should pay close attention to your skin for signs of possible side effects. For example, suppose you have sensitive skin or are prone to rosacea flare-ups. In that case, it’s best not to expose yourself directly after laser hair removal treatment until your skin has fully healed from the procedure itself.

Do not expose yourself to sun or tanning beds

Sun exposure is a common cause of unwanted side effects, so you should avoid it for at least one month after your treatment. This means no sunbathing or tanning beds for at least several weeks.

Avoid using any creams and lotions

Avoid using creams and lotions on your skin for the first couple of days after treatment. This will probably irritate your skin even more and cause itching or burning sensations.

Protect Your Skin with an SPF 30 sunscreen

Ensure your skin is protected by an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. Apply sunscreen every two to three hours while you’re out in the sun when swimming or sweating heavily.

Put ice packs on the treated area to reduce swelling and redness.

You can use an ice pack to reduce swelling and redness. Apply the ice packs directly on the treated area, where they remain until they are no longer needed – typically two to three days. You should apply an ice pack three to four times per day for 24 hours following your laser hair removal treatment.

Avoid irritants like exfoliants and peeling products

After your laser hair removal treatment, you may notice some redness or inflammation. These are normal signs of healing and should fade in a few days. For best results, avoid irritating products such as exfoliants and peeling agents for at least one week after treatment.
